The French National Team’s captain’s armband was vacant after Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris announced he was retiring from international duty following the World Cup. Kylian Mbappé was named France’s new captain by head coach, Didier Deschamps.He has scored 36 goals in his 66 international appearances and became only the second player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final during France’s defeat to Argentina in Qatar last year.
French TV channel TF1 quoted Deschamps . “Kylian meets all the requirements to have this responsibility,On the field as in the life of the group, by being a unifying element.”
The Paris Saint-Germain forward’s first match as France captain will be Friday’s Euro 2024 qualifier against the Netherlands. Atlético Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann has been named vice-captain.
