Caps-lock Blinks Meaning and Troubleshooting applies in the case if your computer finds a hardware error when you turn it on, and fails to start. If the computer beeps or a light blinks, you can use that error code to attempt to resolve the issue.

Identify the notebook light or beep code

Specific patterns of long and short light emitting diode (LED) blinks, or audible short beeps can help identify a variety of issues.
Note:Audible beep codes are not supported on all models.

Caps-lock Blinks Meaning and Troubleshooting meaning

  1. The red caps lock light blinks represent a major error category (long blinks).
  2. The white caps lock light blinks represent a minor error category (short blinks).
  3. On systems that do not have a dual-color light, both long and short blinks are white.
Number Of Blinks or Beeps : 1
  • Caps Lock / Num Lock – The CPU is not functional.
Number Of Blinks or Beeps : 2
  • Caps Lock / Num Lock – The Bios is corrupted or has failed.
Number Of Blinks or Beeps : 3
  • Caps Lock / Num Lock – The Memory/Ram is not functional or the memory module.
Number Of Blinks or Beeps : 4
  • Caps Lock / Num Lock – The Graphics controller is not functional or has Failed.
Number Of Blinks or Beeps : 5
  • Caps Lock / Num Lock – The System Motherboard has failed.
Number Of Blinks or Beeps : 6
  • Caps Lock / Num Lock – The system Bios cannot be authenticated.
Number Of Blinks or Beeps : Continuous Blink
  • AC Power Adapter LED – The Power adapter has insufficient Power.
Number Of Blinks or Beeps : Continuous Glow
  • Battery Power LED – Battery – The AC adapter is attached and the battery is charging, but does not yet have sufficient charge to power the Notebook.
